What is Fair Trade

In countries like the United States, there are labor laws.  Unfortunately, in many countries, there are no such laws.  Fair trade means the farmers and artisans are paid a fair wage and have a fair work environment.

According to the Fair Trade Federation ...

Fair trade is an approach to business and to development based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks to create greater equity in the international trading system.

Fair trade businesses partner with farmers and craftspeople in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized in finding markets and customers for their goods.

The Fair Trade Federation screens and verifies companies that are fully committed to fair trade.  These organizations don’t just buy and sell a few fair trade products; they integrate fair trade practices into everything they do.  These organizations have a deep level of commitment to fair trade practices and maintain long term relationships with small producer organizations.

The Fair Trade Federation (FTF) is a community of verified businesses that are dedicated to holistic fair trade. This commitment to fair trade means the entire business is socially and environmentally responsible in everything they do.
